Survey | Designers in sustainability - Are you taking it seriously?

Following BIDA’s webinar on sustainability and the design profession, ‘What metrics?’ and the Design Council’s report: ‘supporting the transition to a more sustainable future’ our latest survey will gather data on the design profession’s own views of preparedness to - put it simply - shift from the position stated by Victor Papanek 40 years ago in 1982: ‘There are professions more harmful than industrial design but only a few of them’.

The survey will be widely shared on social media and will only take 2 minutes to complete. It asks three core questions, each with a spectrum of low to high multiple choice answers:

  • What is your level of understanding of sustainable and circular practice?

  • How important is sustainability to your work

  • Do you integrate specialist sustainability expertise into your work (eg for scientific testing, materials, manufacturing, logistics, legislative advice etc)

Participants in the survey are optionally asked if they have comments on the topic and case studies they might wish to share.

We hope collecting and sharing data from the reality of the design profession’s current state will contribute to debate and accelerated action towards a more sustainable future. Particularly amongst emerging new generations of designers. Please take a couple of minutes to complete this and share with colleagues in the profession.
