Global Design Industry Organisation (GDIO) identity launched

Back in October 2019, BIDA Board Director Dr Stephen Green attended the third World Industrial Design Conference in Yantai, China.  At the event, UK organisations BIDA and the British Design Fund (represented by John Mathers, ex-head of the Design Council) signed agreements to became founding members of the new Global design organisation, GDIO.

website and identity for the organisation have now been officially launched.  The logo designed by Antony Margiasso, Head of industrial design at Pininfarina Shanghai is inspired by concepts of connections, ‘working together to change the world with design industry’.

The October founding event presented a pledge including the following:

‘We pledge to build a global design industry organisation, to revitalise the industry and create a better life, to promote prosperity and protect the earth.  Together we will make our contributions to achieving a high-quality, sustainable development’

Whilst there’s always scope to quibble with the exact form of words for such things, BIDA is proud to represent the UK design profession in this global initiative with representatives of organisations from over 40 countries.  At this time of extraordinary disruption and change throughout the world, the potential for design to make a positive difference has perhaps never been greater.  To make a positive impact we need collaboration and joined up approaches.  BIDA is active in promoting collaboration locally, nationally and globally.
